Ernst Haeckel

Ernst Haeckel's scientific illustrations were inspiration for my WAS project.

He was not only a biologist and naturalist, but also a philosopher, physician, and artist. I was inspired by his ability to connect the natural world to his academic studies. Furthermore, his attention to detail is amazing, along with his adept motor skills.

Richard Tuttle

I'm drawn to Richard Tuttle's work because of his beautiful, varied, muted color palette and geometric but imperfect forms.

His wire drawings (below) are a fusion of drawing and sculpture. He draws a line on a wall, then fastens wire at the starting and end points of his drawing. The the resulting shadow of the wire filament acts a third line in his composition. Truly a kindred spirit, Tuttle uses minimalist forms, plays with light, blurs mediums....his work makes my heart swell.
