Mernet Larsen
Mernet Larsen is a 75 year old artist who just had her first show in LA. A lot of her paintings are about mundane actions and I really love them and think they are beautiful and always want to look at them for a long time. I love how she uses grids like ceiling grids and floor grids and how the geometric-ness works with the cubic way she paints people. I love how the people in her paintings are formulaic and square but also so expressive at the same time. -Gabe

I looked at Josh Kline's work. In a culture fueled by energy drinks, reality television, LED lighting, and the virtual Internet world that increasingly infringes upon daily existence, Kline often creates commentary on consumerism and modern day culture itself.
This is my favorite, an installated called Skittles:

designer: toothpaste, vitamin water, listerine, toner, magazine, sneaker
bottle service: wall street journal, windex, champagne, foreign currency, vodka, salmon roe, sea salt
williamsburg: credit card, american apparel, kale chips, kombucha, microbrew, quinoa, agave
sick day: dayquil, red bull, ritalin, claritin, aspirin, advil, aleve
minimum wage: mr. clean, money order, medical scrubs, french fries, toilet paper, phone card, latex gloves, pennies
mixed greens: baby spinach, baby kale, lacinato kale, nyquil, tennis ball, wheatgrass, spirulina, olive oil, dollars
big data: google glass, underwear, verizon bill, bacteria, omega-3 fish oil, purell, porn
crowd control: video camera, microphone, pig’s blood, pepper spray, duct tape, dirt
condo: coconut water, hdmi cable, infant formula, turmeric, yoga mat, glass
clear: purell, vodka, lemon, proactive, dianetics, neosporin, sugar

I really like the mockery of society and they way that he can combine today's normalities into installations that are strange enough to make you question it.
